At James Cook University, we are looking for a passionate and experienced professional to join our team as a Communications and Engagement Officer within the Student Services and Support Directorate. As a Communications and Engagement Officer, you will contribute to enhancing the student experience by generating high-quality multimedia communications and supporting the delivery of sector-leading engagement events.

  • Full-time: 36.25 hours per week
  • Fixed-term appointment to February 2028
  • Based at the Townsville, Bebegu Yumba campus Douglas (on-site)
  • HEWL 5: $76,633 - $86,920 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
  • 2.75% pay increase effective 31 December 2025.

ABOUT THE ROLE

In this role, you will design, develop and distribute impactful multimedia content and communications materials for various digital and print platforms that inform and engage students throughout their academic lifecycle, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with brand. In addition, you will support the delivery of high-quality student events and activities that strengthen engagement and contribute positively to the student experience at JCU. As a valued member of our small, high-performing team, you will collaborate with a myriad of internal and external stakeholders and contribute to a culture that values innovation, teamwork, respect, and integrity.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

To be successful in this role, you will need a degree/or equivalent industry experience in Marketing, Media and Communications, Journalism, Events, and relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education and/or training. Underpinning your suitability for this position will be your experience designing, developing and distributing high-quality multimedia content and communications utilising Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Suites, Customer Relationship Management and Content Management Systems. Effective time management skills are essential in balancing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines. Your outstanding interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills will enable you to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders from across the University. Experience in event delivery, videography, photography and the higher education sector are highly desirable.
