- Full time
- Closing on: Dec 8 2025
James Cook University (JCU) is creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally and globally.
We now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional to join our team as the Work Health and Safety Training and Communications Advisor, where you will design and deliver contemporary Work Health and Safety (WHS) training, inductions and communication initiatives that build confidence, strengthen compliance and embed a proactive safety mindset across the JCU community.
- Full-time, continuing position
- Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas
- HEWL 8: $108,964 - $125,126 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
- 2.75% pay increase effective 31 December 2025.
ABOUT THE ROLE
In this influential position, you’ll lead the development of innovative WHS training and communication strategies, using data and needs analysis to target capability gaps and improve learning effectiveness. You’ll enhance our safety culture through engaging campaigns, events and digital content, and support the rollout of new initiatives using structured change management approaches. You’ll also deliver high-level reporting and insights that inform decision-making and maintain systems that track WHS training, certification and compliance across the University.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
You are a training and communications specialist with demonstrated experience in designing and delivering contemporary, engaging training programs. You hold relevant qualifications, including a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and bring strengths in effective stakeholder engagement, analytical thinking, and influencing change through targeted communication and education. While an understanding of WHS principles, legislative requirements and best practice would be highly valued, it is not essential.
