James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Research Worker to support high‑quality environmental monitoring and research activities across Northern Queensland.
About the role
The Senior Research Worker provides specialised technical support to environmental research projects, contributing to high‑quality data collection, protocol implementation and field operations in line with established research standards. Working closely with research leaders and field teams, the role supports the delivery of project milestones through the coordination of data workflows, training of research personnel, and accurate management of scientific data.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, document and implement workflows for environmental data collection, quality assurance and delivery.
- Test, refine and support data collection protocols, ensuring consistent and compliant application across field teams.
- Deliver training and coaching to staff and students in environmental data collection methods, SOPs and data workflows.
- Contribute to planning and delivery of field operations, including logistics, equipment management and risk mitigation.
- Support the coordination, processing and communication of research outputs to ensure project milestones are achieved.
About you
You will bring:
- Degree qualifications and experience aligned with HEWL 6.
- Demonstrated experience in environmental monitoring, including floral and faunal survey techniques.
- Strong commitment to data quality, research integrity and best‑practice scientific standards.
- Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work independently.
- Willingness and ability to participate in fieldwork, including travel to remote locations.
