James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a strategic and motivated Research Development and Partnership Advisor to join our dynamic Research and Innovation Services team.
Representing the research office and embedded in the College of Science and Engineering, this role plays a key part in identifying and advancing research priorities, fostering opportunities, and supporting researchers across disciplines to grow JCU’s research performance and external engagement.
What you’ll do:
- Engage with researchers, understand priorities and implement innovative strategies to progress opportunities.
- Create research pathways through engaging with potential external partners and articulating the research strengths of the college and wider university.
- Support researchers by identifying potential research partners and facilitating/negotiating collaborative opportunities.
- Provide expert strategic and practical advice to support the progress of college research priorities.
- Represent the research office and provide advice to inform due diligence processes for research-related activities.
- Coordinate the flow of research opportunity information, particularly for cross-disciplinary and large partnership projects.
- Deliver reports, partnership insights, and facilitate workshops that enhance research capability and outcomes.
What you’ll bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience informing an understanding of research projects .
- Practical research knowledge and experience in a discipline relevant to the College of Science and Engineering (earth and environmental science, engineering, information technology, marine biology, aquaculture, zoology, ecology and/or physical sciences).
- Proven ability to identify institutional capabilities and align them with external partnership opportunities.
- Exceptional ability to engage with industry and community, building relationships and opening up potential opportunity for collaboration.
- Strong critical thinking, attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage shifting priorities, along with multiple internal and external relationships.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with academic, industry, and government stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel to conferences or to meet industry partners on an infrequent basis off campus.
