Creating a brighter future for life in the Tropics and beyond, through education and research that makes a difference locally and globally, James Cook University (JCU) is seeking an experienced Project Manager to deliver a portfolio of complex capital works that support the University’s long‑term infrastructure strategy across Northern Australia.

This role sits within the Estate Directorate, operating at the interface between strategic planning and project delivery across a geographically diverse footprint.

  • Full-time, fixed term to May 2028
  • HEWL 9: $130,115 - $137,625 per annum, plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions.
  • Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE

Delivering capital projects in support of the University’s strategic plan, you will be responsible for the planning and implementation of complex building projects, extensions, refurbishments and infrastructure upgrades across campus and at off-site locations.

Working closely with the Manager, Capital Projects, you will resolve project-related issues and provide day-to-day direction to consultants and contractors as required. You will play a key role in delivering capital works that enable JCU’s teaching, research and community objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and delivering complex building, refurbishment and infrastructure projects
  • Managing projects across multiple campuses and off-site locations
  • Providing day-to-day direction to consultants and contractors
  • Partnering closely with the Estate team to resolve issues and maintain project momentum
  • Ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to specification

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE

As an experienced Project Manager, you are committed to delivering high-quality, best practice and compliant outcomes in accordance with legislation, regulation, codes and standards. You are accustomed to negotiating with a variety of stakeholders including contractors, consultants and suppliers to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to meet requirements.

You are a proven communicator with sound negotiation and problem-solving skills with an eye for detail and an interest in emerging technologies for sustainable buildings. You are comfortable working in a large, complex organisational settings, balancing multiple priorities and timeframes. An eye for detail and a genuine interest in sustainable building practices and emerging technologies.
