James Cook University (JCU) is seeking an accomplished academic leader to take on the role of Centre Lead at the Central Queensland Centre for Rural and Remote Health (CQCRRH). This is a unique opportunity to shape health education and research in regional and remote communities, while fostering partnerships that make a real difference.

What you’ll do

  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of academic programs in allied health, nursing, mental health, and research.
  • Drive engagement with cross-sector partners, community stakeholders, professional bodies, and policy makers.
  • Monitor and report on grant deliverables and ensure alignment with CQCRRH’s mission.
  • Contribute to senior governance and decision-making within the School of Rural and Remote Health.
  • Champion JCU’s values and commitment to reconciliation, sustainability, and equity.

What we’re looking for

  • A PhD or equivalent experience with scholarly outputs in rural and remote health, education, or workforce.
  • Strong understanding of the higher education sector.
  • Proven experience managing remote allied health programs, clinical placements, research, and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead geographically dispersed teams and work effectively in culturally diverse settings.
  • Expertise in rural and remote community engagement and collaboration with health services and professional organisations.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to travel across CQCRRH’s service footprint, including overnight stays.
  • Current Queensland C class driver’s license and Working with Children Blue Card (or ability to obtain).
