James Cook University are currently hiring multiple Casual Student Communications and Engagement General Assistants (GA) to join the Student Communications and Engagement Team (SC&E) in the Student Services and Support Directorate.

The role of the Casual GA is to assist the SC&E Team in the preparation and delivery of high-quality student-focused events and activations, including Orientation Week, on both the Townsville, Bebegu Yumba and Cairns, Smithfield, Nguma-bada campuses.

• Employment Type: Casual
• Hours per week: Up to 20 (will fluctuate)
• Hourly rate: currently $40.06 per hour plus superannuation
• Location: Townsville and Cairns
• Division: Education Division
• Directorate: Student Services Support Directorate
• Reports To: Team Leader, Student Communications and Engagement

RESPONSIBILITIES

Tasks that a GA may be expected to undertake include, but are not limited to:

• Basic administrative office-based tasks
• Setting up and packing down equipment for events
• Performing physical activities and manual handling
• Food handling
• Assisting and interacting with students
• Assisting with presentations by preparing materials and providing basic support to the presenter as directed.
• Assisting with event photography/videography
• Merchandising
• Conducting stock take.

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Availability during peak student intake periods like Orientation Week
• Ability to work effectively and collaboratively as a part of a team
• Sound written and verbal communication and customer service skills
• Ability to undertake physical activities and repetitive manual handling tasks in indoor and outdoor conditions, such as lifting and carrying heavy event equipment and standing for prolonged periods, as required.
