About the Role
James Cook University (JCU) is seeking an experienced academic leader to join our College of Healthcare Sciences as Associate Professor in Nursing and Midwifery. This role offers the opportunity to shape the future of nursing and midwifery education and research in Northern Australia and beyond.

You will lead innovative curriculum development, mentor academic staff, and contribute to impactful research that strengthens JCU’s reputation for excellence in healthcare education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in learning and teaching, research, and professional engagement.
  • Design and deliver innovative curricula for undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including online and blended learning.
  • Mentor academic staff and supervise Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students.
  • Conduct high-impact research, publish in quality journals, and secure research funding.
  • Build strong partnerships with industry, health services, and the wider community.

What We’re Looking For

  • PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline and eligibility for registration as a nurse and/or midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
  • Proven leadership and management experience in academic or clinical settings.
  • Demonstrated success in curriculum development and innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Strong research track record, including publications and grant success.
  • Experience mentoring colleagues and supervising research students.
  • Ability to build collaborative relationships across diverse teams and stakeholders.
