      We are seeking an experienced Senior Lecturer – General Practice & Rural Medicine to contribute to the delivery, coordination and continuous development of the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program, with a focus on early-year teaching and research-informed education.

      About the role

      In this role, you will contribute to teaching across the MBBS program, particularly in social and behavioural sciences, preventative medicine, global health, health promotion and research methods, primarily in Years 1–3. You will also contribute to postgraduate coursework teaching (predominantly online), teach research methods, and supervise Honours and Higher Degree Research students.

      You will play an important role in curriculum development, assessment, committee participation and collaborative research relevant to medical education and health service delivery in regional and remote settings.

      Key responsibilities include:

      • Contributing to the delivery, coordination and ongoing development of the MBBS curriculum.

      • Teaching and assessing undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.

      • Facilitating clinical placements and supporting program delivery within the College.

      • Participating in collaborative research aligned with medical education and regional health priorities.

      • Supervising Honours and Higher Degree Research candidates.

      • Actively contributing to College committees and academic governance activities.

      • Supporting JCU’s commitment to reconciliation, sustainability and the University’s core values.

      What you’ll bring:

      • Current registration as a medical practitioner in Australia and Fellowship of an Australian Specialist Medical College (or equivalent).

      • Extensive experience delivering clinical services within the Australian health system.

      • Demonstrated understanding of academic and clinical service delivery in rural and remote contexts.

      • Experience teaching in undergraduate and/or postgraduate medical education.

      • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.

      • Demonstrated empathy and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.

      • Alignment with the values and strategic intent of the College of Medicine and Dentistry.

      Desirable

      • A record of research, publications and conference presentations.

      • Willingness to undertake further training in medical education.

      • Substantial experience living and working in rural and/or remote settings.
