JCU Library is seeking an experienced and service‑focused Librarian to contribute to the delivery of high‑quality, accessible digital library services that support learning, teaching, and research across the University.

  • Full-time opportunity | 36.25 hours per week
  • Located at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus
  • HEWL 5: $78,740 - $89,310 (pro-rata) plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role delivers a seamless digital user experience through the maintenance of the Library’s web presence and digital content. Working collaboratively across Library teams, the Librarian contributes to the transformation of services into intuitive, user‑centred digital resources that enhance student and researcher engagement.

This part‑time role offers flexibility while providing the opportunity to work in a dynamic academic library environment committed to service excellence and continuous improvement.

As a Librarian, you will be accountable for:

  • Providing responsive, high‑quality support to Library users, resolving mid‑tier enquiries, facilitating access to information resources, and referring complex queries to specialist staff as required.
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of training materials and programs that build information and digital literacy skills, enabling user confidence and self‑sufficiency.
  • Supporting teaching and learning activities through the preparation and maintenance of teaching resources, including reading lists, textbook availability, and course‑related materials.
  • Participating in collaborative projects that promote information and digital literacy, improve access to resources, and enhance Library services.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and achieve high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Supporting acquisition, access, and metadata processes for print and digital collections in line with Library collection guidelines.

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE

  • Qualifications and experience in Library and Information Science (or a related discipline)
  • Demonstrated experience providing quality customer service and supporting access to print and electronic information resources.
  • Well‑developed written and oral communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • The ability to apply and adapt information, communication, and learning technologies in the delivery of library services.
  • Experience in help desk, information, or reference services, preferably within an academic or research library environment.
  • Experience in preparing learning and teaching resources and delivering information literacy training.

Position Requirements

  • Eligibility for Associate membership of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA).
