  • Full-time; continuing
  • Academic Level B or C - $109,791 - $153,251 per annum plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits
  • Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas.

About the opportunity 

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Mathematics, will be responsible for teaching Mathematics at undergraduate and postgraduate levels across multiple delivery modes, as well as contributing to curriculum development and coordination of the suite of mathematics programs in the College. In addition to this, the Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Mathematics, provides administrative, marketing and outreach support for the Physical Sciences academic group and the university.

The Lecturer/Senior Lecturer, Mathematics will demonstrate an excellent research track record in any area of mathematics that complements the College of Science and Engineering’s strategic commitment to research and teaching that is underpinned by strong connections to the fundamental sciences and mathematics. Expertise in mathematics at JCU is dispersed broadly across the institution.  The Discipline of Mathematics also has significant responsibilities in service teaching. Therefore, capacity to work productively across work units is essential in this position. A capacity to engage effectively with local, national and international industry and government agencies to identify and develop opportunities for innovation-driven partnerships would be advantageous.

Candidates with a background from any branch of mathematics are encouraged to apply. 

 

What you can bring to the role 

  • PhD qualification or equivalent in Mathematics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated capacity to coordinate and teach undergraduate and postgraduate subjects in mathematics in on-campus, flexible and online delivery modes. 
  • Evidence of an established research track-record, including interdisciplinary collaboration and effective supervision of postgraduate/higher degree by research (HDR) students.
  • Demonstrated success or capacity to attract competitive research funding.
  • Capacity to establish an independent research program which involves collaborating across disciplinary, institutional boundaries and/or industry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated capacity to communicate technical concepts in mathematics to both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to outreach and marketing activities that promote relevant university business.
