James Cook University is seeking passionate and experienced Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health professionals to join the College of Medicine and Dentistry. We currently have two opportunities available, one role is based in Townsville and the other is based in Cairns.
This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health education, student success, community engagement and culturally safe health professional training across a range of disciplines.
About the Role
As a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, you will play an important role in strengthening Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health education across the College of Medicine and Dentistry.
You will work collaboratively with students, staff, clinicians, community-controlled organisations, health services and community partners to support culturally safe teaching and learning, curriculum development, student support and community engagement initiatives. You will contribute to creating learning environments that enhance the recruitment, retention and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students while helping to prepare future healthcare professionals to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and expertise in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health education, cultural safety and student support.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health curriculum and cross-cultural education.
- Build and maintain strong partnerships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, community-controlled organisations and health services.
- Support the recruitment, progression and success of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
- Contribute to scholarship, research and professional activities that improve Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health and education outcomes.
- Participate in College and University committees, working groups and strategic initiatives.
About You
You will bring experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, education, community engagement or a related field, together with a strong commitment to improving health and educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
You will be recognised for your ability to build trusted relationships and work collaboratively with communities, students, staff and external stakeholders. Experience in teaching, student support, curriculum development, research, community engagement or culturally safe practice will be highly regarded.
For appointment at Senior Lecturer (Level C), you will also demonstrate significant leadership experience, scholarly or professional achievement and a strong track record of partnership development and strategic contribution.
