  • HEWL 6: $90,821 – $98,369 plus up to 17% employer superannuation contributions, leave loading and other generous employee benefits

 

ABOUT THE ROLE

James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a skilled and motivated Laboratory and Technical Support Advisor to enable the delivery of contemporary undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across medicine, dentistry and other related areas at the University.

In this hands‑on role, you will deliver expert scientific and technical advisory services to academic staff and students, ensuring high‑quality learning experiences and safe, compliant laboratory operations. You will play a key role in supporting teaching laboratories, intensives and workshops while contributing to continuous improvement of laboratory and technical support services.

WHAT YOU CAN BRING TO THE ROLE

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Degree qualifications with relevant work experience
  • Demonstrated experience with clinical and simulation equipment relevant to medical, dental and health professional education and training, including use of specialised medical and dental equipment and instruments.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting teaching and/or research laboratories, including a strong working knowledge of laboratory procedures, policies and technical equipment.
  • Proven understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation and the ability to apply it practically to deliver safe and compliant laboratory environments.
  • Functional supervisory skills, with the ability to provide leadership, oversee quality performance outcomes, and contribute to improved safety performance.
  • Strong organisational, problem‑solving and administrative skills, with a demonstrated ability to prioritise competing deadlines and exercise sound judgement in a complex work environment.

Position Requirements

  •  This role may provide functional supervision to visitors or new staff as required.

It is a mandatory requirement of this position to hold or obtain:

  • A current First Aid Certificate
  • A current Queensland C‑Class Driver Licence
  • A current Working with Children Blue Card
