We now have an exciting opportunity for a passionate and experienced Laboratory and Technical Support Advisor (Anatomy and Pathology) to join our Townsville Laboratory and Technical Support team.
- Full-time, continuing position based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, Douglas.
- Relocation Assistance may be considered for the ideal candidate.
- Remuneration - HEWL 6: $90,821 - $98,369, plus up to 17% employer superannuation with UniSuper.
WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE
In this position, you'll play a crucial role in delivering exceptional educational experiences. Your responsibilities include providing technical support for anatomy and pathology undergraduate classes as well as mitigating University-related risks by ensuring safety and hygiene compliance, reporting incidents, and participating in safety audits and training.
Your role extends to enabling quality teaching outcomes through the preparation of anatomical teaching materials, dissections and the allocation of cadaveric resources and teaching materials while ensuring security processes and regulatory compliance are maintained. This position also supports the Human Bequest Program in the receipt and handling donor remains with the utmost respect.
In this hands-on and specialised role, you will contribute to the delivery of high-quality anatomical education and laboratory operations through:
- Dissection and prosection of cadaveric material to create high-quality anatomical specimens for teaching
- Embalming of donor bodies and gross sectioning in preparation for dissection by students and staff
- Applying specialised specimen preparation techniques, including:
- Skeletonisation
- Museum specimen potting
- Other preservation and presentation methods as required
- Maintaining a safe, compliant laboratory environment by:
- Developing, reviewing, and following risk assessments and safe work method statements
- Identifying and reporting hazards and incidents
- Performing routine lab cleaning and maintenance
- Supporting regulatory compliance and meeting workplace safety standards
- Providing operational support to the Human Bequest Program
- Assisting with stock control, procurement, and asset management for anatomy and pathology equipment and consumables
WHAT YOU CAN BRING TO THE ROLE
- Degree qualifications in human anatomy or a related field, and relevant experience or a combination of experience and education
- Demonstrated experience in anatomy teaching and/or research laboratories, or comparable laboratory facilities (e.g. forensic pathology, mortuaries etc) with knowledge of related regulations, policy and procedures.
- Experience working with deceased human and/or other animal anatomical specimens and preparing anatomical material for teaching or scientific purposes.
- Proven experience and familiarity with anatomical techniques and equipment utilised in anatomy laboratories.
- Hepatitis B vaccination and demonstrated serology, and a willingness to acquire other vaccinations if necessary with reasonable notice.
- Ability and willingness to meet manual handling demands, including safe lifting techniques
- Proven understanding of Work, Health and Safety legislation and its practical application to deliver a safety compliant work or learning environment.
- Significant organisational, problem solving and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet competing deadlines, and an established record of exercising judgement and initiative in a complex work environment.
