James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a dynamic and visionary academic leader to join our College of Medicine and Dentistry as Head of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of public health education and research in northern Australia and the tropical world.
About the Role
As Head of Discipline, you will provide strategic leadership and academic direction across learning, teaching, research, and engagement activities. You will work closely with the College Dean, Associate Deans, and the Manager of College Operations to advance the Discipline at both College and University levels. This role includes a senior academic appointment with responsibilities in teaching and research.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the Discipline of Public Health and Tropical Medicine.
- Drive innovation in curriculum development and accreditation processes.
- Promote high-quality research and research education.
- Support and develop academic staff, including performance management.
- Foster collaboration across disciplines and with external stakeholders.
- Contribute to strategic planning and College priorities.
- Uphold JCU’s values, including reconciliation and sustainability.
About You
You will be an experienced academic with a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant field, and a strong track record in teaching and research. You bring proven leadership in academic innovation, staff development, and strategic planning. Your collaborative approach and ability to build relationships with professional bodies and communities will be key to your success.
