We now have an exciting opportunity for a Getty Research Fellow, Guidance and Facilitator Training Materials for Climate Vulnerability Assessment to join our team within the College of Science and Engineering.​

  • Full-time and fixed term to 18 June 2028 
  • Located at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus in Tropical North Queensland  
  • Academic Level A or B $80,371 - $133,110 p.a. + super and other benefits
  • Level of appointment and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience

About the opportunity 

The Getty Research Fellow, Guidance and Facilitator Training Materials for Climate Vulnerability Assessment will conduct research to support key deliverables for Getty's Global Art and Sustainability Fellows program; and the program of the UNESCO Chair on Climate Change Vulnerability of Natural and Cultural Heritage. The 2-year position will develop guidance documents and facilitator training for the Climate Vulnerability Index (CVI, https://cvi-heritage.org) on the Bebegu Yumba Townsville campus. Key tasks and accountabilities of the position will include to develop materials to support accelerated training of heritage practitioners in climate science, vulnerability theory, the application of these into local (community) contexts; to develop and implement CVI facilitator training workshops; and trial each of these in preparing for CVI workshops. This will necessarily include publication and dissemination of research findings and quality academic publications.

 

What you can bring to the role 

  • A PhD or Master qualification or equivalent in a relevant climate science and/or heritage conservation discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing communication materials, such as for use in training.
  • Demonstrated experience in the production, facilitation and/or participation for multi-disciplinary consultation workshops.
  • Evidence of outstanding research ability, including innovation, creativity and timely completion of tasks.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong publishing track record in quality peer- reviewed journals, including as lead author.
  • Ability to work effectively, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in and understanding of climate science (including historical data and future projections).
  • Exposure to and/or experience in heritage conservation management and/or governance.
  • Experience in production of consultation workshops for climate change, heritage or other applications.
  • Experience in effective stakeholder and rightsholder engagement for climate change, heritage or other applications.

Desirable

  • Experience in and understanding of climate science (including historical data and future projections).
  • Exposure to and/or experience in heritage conservation management and/or governance.
  • Experience in production of consultation workshops for climate change, heritage or other applications.
